About

” Poetry is Life, aka Know Thyself” tells the life story of a wise elder, raised in the 1970s, whose most pivotal experiences are shared through poetry, music, and comedy. No stone is left unturned on this journey, as it touches on topics ranging from sex and marriage to the failures of the educational system and the hidden truths of history. Inspired by real events, the production stands out as one of the most original of its kind.

Some may feel challenged, others may be embraced, but all will be moved. At its heart, KTS seeks unity, but only through truth first. For if you do not truly know yourself, you cannot love yourself, heal yourself, or authentically love others.

The writers of this play, Tarvis EL and Mike “Baba” Ware, have crafted a production that thrives on authenticity. By giving actors and actresses the freedom to improvise, the true energy of each scene emerges, creating moments that are raw, powerful, and unforgettable. Even the casting process is an art form in itself carefully designed to match each performer’s strengths and vulnerabilities with the soul of the story.

At its core, the production leans on poetry and spoken word forms of expression that reach beyond entertainment and into the spirit. These words come from lived experience, deep logic, and heartfelt emotion, designed to touch the audience in ways that linger long after the show ends.

Not everyone is ready for the weight of the subject matter. Some audition and quickly walk away. Yet those who stay not only become lifelong friends, but often thank us for allowing them to be part of something so transformative. Many describe the experience as life-changing not only for the cast, but for the directors themselves, who continue to grow alongside the ensemble.

We invite you to join us, whether on stage or in the audience for a production that challenges, inspires, and connects us all.
